Alejandro Dillon is founder and Managing Partner of Columbus Merchant Banking. Mr. Dillon has almost 25 years of Investment Banking experience, were he was in charge of origination and structuring of debt, equity, privatizations, project finance and advisory deals for different industries in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile for investors, corporates and governments. During his career, Mr. Dillon was involved in more than 120 transactions totaling a volume exceeding US$ 20,000 million, many of which have been landmark transactions in the Latin American marketplace.
Before founding Columbus, Mr. Dillon was involved for almost 18 years at Citigroup. Between 2002 and 2004 Mr. Dillon, together with his current partners, led the Argentina Corporate Finance Team responsible for the redeployment of the corporate restructuring portfolios generated after the crisis. Mr. Dillon was the M&A Head of Citigroup in the Southern Cone from 1997 to 2002, Managing Director of Citicorp Capital Markets S.A. and acted as Investment Banking Deputy Head in Argentina.
During his career, Alejandro has also worked actively with the Argentine Securities and Exchange Commission, the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, the Association of Argentine Banks, and the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina, mainly focusing in the development of the local Capital Markets and innovative financial products.
Alejandro Dillon holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and has attended the Advance Development Program at the London Business School (“LBS-ADP25”). Mr. Dillon has been professor of the Master in Finance at Saint Andrew’s University (Argentina) from 2002 to 2007. He was a Member of the LBS International Alumni Board from 1999 to 2005. He is also a Member of the Advisory Board at I.A.E. Business School Center for Entrepreneurship (Argentina) and has collaborated with Endevor (Argentina) and New Ventures (USA).
Fernando Herrera is founding partner of Columbus Merchant Banking and worked in the Investment Banking Industry since 1992. Mr. Herrera was previously Senior Vice President of Citigroup/Citibank, N.A. While in Citibank, Mr. Herrera worked in the Corporate Finance for Citigroup Assets Team in Argentina, being responsible for the redeployment of the Corporate Restructuring Portfolio generated after the Argentine crisis. Prior to this position, Mr. Herrera was Equity Head in the Investment Banking Division of Citigroup in Argentina for five years, where he also was in charge of the origination of private equity transactions for Citigroup Venture Capital (“CVC”). During 1998 he worked in the Corporate Finance Team of Citibank/Citicorp in New York taking part in the structuring of securitization and structured finance products for Argentina. During 1992-1994 he worked on the organization of Citibank’s research unit and in the development of different capital market products.
Fernando Herrera holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Mr. Herrera was a professor at the Masters in Finance at Universidad de San Andrés and in the Universidad de Buenos Aires and collaborator of the “Junior Achievement Program” and in the IAE’s NAVES Program.

Julio Fermo is a Certified Public Accountant from the Universidad Nacional Rosario (UNR). He also holds a Master degree in Finance from the Centro de Estudios Macroeconómicos de Argentina (CEMA), which he complemented with a Master degree in Bankruptcy from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires (UBA). Julio Fermo is founding partner and director at Columbus Merchant Banking. Mr. Fermo has worked in the Investment Banking industry for more than 16 years, covering the whole range of products such as fixed income, structured products, multilateral financing, advisory, syndicated loans, project finance, M&A, private equity, venture capital, liability management, work-outs, LBOs, among others.
Before joining Columbus, Mr. Fermo was Vice President of Citigroup/Citibank, N.A. and Structured Finance Head within Citibank Argentina’s Investment Banking Team. Prior to that, he was part of the Corporate Finance for Citigroup Assets Team in Argentina responsible for the restructuring of the proprietary corporate portfolio affected by the 2001 domestic crisis. During this period, Mr. Fermo led the steering committees of Pecom Energía S.A., Banco Hipotecario, Multicanal, AGEA (Diario Clarín), Cablevisión and Loma Negra, among others. During 1999, Mr. Fermo worked as an Associate at Citigroup Latin America Investment Banking Group, based in New York, covering a wide range of products and geographies. Prior to joining Citibank, Mr. Fermo worked for two years at Galicia Capital Markets S.A. as an investment banking officer.
Mr. Fermo is a professor of “Financial Accounting” and “Corporate Finance” in the Master in Finance at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. Over the last four years he has been elected as the Best Professor of the Master in Finance three times. Mr. Fermo is also Academic Director of the Executive Program “Financing Corporate Growth” at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. He was professor of “Investment Banking” and “Mergers & Acquisitions” of the Master in Finance at the Universidad Nacional Rosario from 2002 until 2011. He was professor of “Applied Investment Banking” at the Universidad de San Andrés until 2006. He also led several “in house” training programs at Citibank.

Alejandro de Nevares
Alejandro de Nevares is partner of Columbus Merchant Banking. He has over 25 years of Investment Banking and “Sales & Trading” experience. Mr. de Nevares has been involved in the origination, structuring, syndication and distribution of a variety of financial instruments, participating in more than 500 deals throughout Latin America, many of which are considered landmark transactions in the region.
Prior to joining Columbus he was Latin America Investors Sales Head at Citigroup New York, being responsible for the distribution strategy and management of the sales teams in Latin America, Mexico and Brazil. While in Citigroup, Mr. de Nevares was also in charge of the syndication, underwriting, distribution and trading of fixed income instruments. He coordinated the re-opening of Citicorp Valores S.A., Citigroup’s stock broker arm in Argentina and was also responsible for Citibank’s equity back-book in Argentina. Additionally, Mr. de Nevares structured numerous IPOs, Commercial Papers, Corporate Bonds, Deposits and Structured Notes, being a pioneer in the Argentine corporate bond trading market. Prior to that, he was first a credit analyst and then a trader at Banco Mildesa S.A (now Banco Patagonia) and previously held a position at Daniel H. Milberg &Co., a Buenos Aires Stock Exchange broker.
Alejandro de Nevares holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Buenos Aires. In addition he has an Executive MBA from The Fuqua School of Business- Duke University.
Alejandro is also a professor at the Masters in Finance at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Argentina and has also led several “in house” Capital Markets training programs at Citibank
